Art academy
Edinburgh 2004
The art school is a landscape of circulation, in which the classrooms are integrate within this dynamic field of movement, embedded within the public ramped sequential pattern.
The public six ramps slope half floor up and half floor down in spiral movement leading to the centre, creating a pockets in-between leading to a hidden floor of private classrooms.
The building reacts to its context, it borrows its skin from the market its located within (like a cameleon). Starts with six art shops (for the six art departments),- where students can sell their art and interact with the community- those shops gradually change in nature as you move further into the public corridors leading into the heart of the academy.
