UAE Pavilion for Venice Biennale 2020

"Spanning the Slivers"

Competition entry, 2018

The pavilion is an immersive installation that conceptualizes and accentuates the pluralism in context of UAE through materiality. With a focus on the physical context, the design metaphorically represents the tangible and the intangible contexts.

The hall will contain a sliced samples of the divert terrains of UAE and one minimal wall is to span the landscape. The wall as a minimal architectural element, artistically displays adaptation through different reactions to each segment.

The playful contours of the landscapes encourage people to explore and occupy the different segments while having the wall on display.

Contextual adaptation suggested for this pavilion is only a representation of adaptation that extends to the human dimension and the multiple layers of social, political and economical contexts.
